A year of personal growth

April 28, 2010

I've been reflecting on the last year and it's really struck me just how incredible it's been. a bit over a year ago I promised myself I was going to identify what was important to me and actively peruse it, and once I started it took on a life of it's own.

I put my TV in the closet, turned my computer room into storage, replaced my sports car with a forester, and picked up a splitboard and avy gear. The last year has been eventful. I started lead climbing, outdoor climbing, did my first multiday mountain biking trip, and became addicted to backcountry snowboarding touring. I spent 42 days on my snowboard touring at 7 locations and visiting 7 ski resorts, fractured a rib and broke my ankle mountain biking, and survived  being dragged a third of the way down a mountain in a class 2 avalanche.

In the process I have met some amazing new people, me and Eric started an outdoor enthusiast community, and I've learned a lot about myself. I've never felt more comfortable with who I am or more consistently happy, and from the looks of it this next year is going to be even better. Looking back I would say the answer to the question of what is important to me is the people in my life, the mountains, and the ocean.

I highly recommend to all who are reading this to find out what's important to you, and chase it down!
